First
settled in the 1860's the district abounds in both rural and natural
beauty. Primarily an agricultural area, Lilydale has internationally
recognised vineyards in its surrounding hills. Many artists live
in the area and it is also a popular area for the production of
pottery and craftwork. Many of the Electricty Poles in the town
have been painted by local artists, leading to the township now
being known as 'Lilydale - Home of the Painted Poles'.
A
tour through this picturesque area could include visits to Hollybank
Forest Reserve, The Lilydale
Falls Reserve, Merthyr Park or a walk to the summit of Mt Arthur, for those interested in our flora
and fauna. Many of the local vineyards are open to the public
as well. |
