Football Club News: The Lilydale Senior Team completed the 16 roster matches undefeated, two more wins and the Club has a Premiership. The last time the Seniors won a flag was 1994. The under 16's finished in 2nd position losing only two games for the year, both to the Scottsdale Crows who finished on top. The Reserves play in the 1st semi final and from now on must win every game to stay in contention. In the NEFU Best and Fairest vote count, the Club did not poll as well as expected. Steve Buchanan only got 7 votes (15 last year) and Nathan Arnold 1 (last game of the year). David Stewart with 13 was Lilydale's highest. NEFU Best and Fairest Seniors: 1st Tony Saunders (Crows) 17 2nd John Petterwood (Crows) 16 2nd Ricky Crossingham (St Helens) 16 Reserves 1st C. Stone (Winnaleah) 14 2nd Mark Allsop (Lilydale) 11 2nd G. Joseph (St. Helens) 11 Under 16's 1st Darius Sutton (Branxholm) 26 2nd Lane Dwyer (Lilydale) 21 3rd B. Butler (Crows) 18 In a Club/Team context things look a lot better in the Seniors: 16 Players got votes with 13 best on ground (3 votes) out of a possible 16. Reserves: 15 players got votes, 11 Best on Ground Under 16's: 8 players got votes, 12 Best on Ground. This would indicate a more even spread of players in the Lilydale teams and their strength comes from not having to rely on one or two 'Stars' but from all Players making a contribution. The Club hopes that all Players continue to contribute right through the Finals series, because if that happens Lilydale will be hard to beat. An oversight at the time of the last Progressive saw functions listed on Sunday 24th August, we temporarily forgot about the AFL Match at York Park on that day. The Club's best and fairest vote count has been rescheduled for Saturday 30th August with the break up for the Under 13's and Under 10's the following day (31st). This is the problem with a monthly newsletter, one slip up and you're gone, by the time the next one is printed it is all old news. The Club hopes that people found out about the date changes and that no one was inconvenienced, if they were we can only say sorry.
