Progress Association News
1. The Progress Association exists for what reason?
What is the Progress Association involved with?
Lilydale District Progress Association Inc(LDPA) is a community organisation which aims to improve the Lilydale community through consultation between the community, LDPA, other community organisations, Launceston City Council (LCC) and State and Federal governments. Any person living in Lilydale or its surrounding areas can become a member of the Association and even at a committee level. On the membership, most community groups have problems with membership, or more to the point, lack of members. A large membership gives community groups many skills and experiences to draw from; this makes for a truly representative organisation. On a more personal level, I would like to invite any person new or old to the district to come along to one of our meetings and have some input, and express their views on the future of the Association and the District: I will personally welcome some new points of view. Some of the projects and things that the Association are involved in and do are: · The Lilydale Progressive is a free monthly community newspaper publication. This is done with the support of over 20 local businesses who advertise in the Progressive, with articles coming from the Community and Community Organisations. This has happened for the last 23years. · With help from the community, LCC and State Government over the last three years we have developed the Village Green concept to improve the centre of the township. · We have also had members involved in the North East Tasmania Access Study, examining the best transport route for that part of the state. As part of that we have also had involvement in the redesign of the Lilydale main street to make it a safer and more pleasant area for everyone who comes into Lilydale. · The Court House Complex: These rooms are available to the community and groups at a minimal cost. Book at the Lilydale Post Office. Please remember that all positions on the Progress Association are done on a voluntary basis and the more people involved makes life easier for all concerned.
Hope to see you at the AGM on 2nd September, at 7.00 p.m at the Old Court House. TTFN Graeme Arnold - President LDPA
