Football Club News: History will record that the Club's Senior team went through the 2003 season undefeated only to lose the Grand Final. This is a fate to be shared with other teams, reports are 11 teams went through the season undefeated with 9 of them losing their Grand Finals. Whether this is actually true or not we do not know.
Lilydale's coach, Steven Buchanan, had his jaw broken early in the first quarter of the Grand Final, he kept playing and was hit again in the second, this time being required to leave the ground in a dazed condition. The umpires have been provided with a video of the game.
The Club's under 16's also lost their Grand Final in a high standard, even contest and the Club is proud of them, not only for giving us a good game of Football, but by the way they conducted themselves afterwards.
A couple of bad umpiring decisions, which changed the flow and direction of play may have influenced the final result, that is something we will never know. The Players did their best and the Club thanks them for their efforts.
The Reserves Grand Final was also a close game, it is not very often that you see three Grand Final matches with close finishes as nerves and other pressures take their toll on the Players.
With this report more or less wrapping up the 2003 season, the Club wishes to thank the supporters and past players who attended the Finals in numbers. The results this year were unfortunate, but stick with the Club, we have more good young players on the way right down to the kids in the Under 10's.
Results of the Club's Best and Fairest vote count were: Seniors: Steven Buchanan 63 votes Nathan Arnold 57 votes Sam Arnold 37 votes Darren Stephens 31 votes Reserves Bruce Lockhart 39 votes Mark Allsop 31 votes Nick Venn 31 votes Jamie Terry 30 votes Under 16's Brendan Hawes 84 votes Tony Betts 59 votes Lane Dwyer 45 votes Cade Haines 45 votes
Trophies for the Winners and Runners Up will be presented at the Annual Dinner. With the club
