Adults, 10c children and afternoon tea was 30c!! There were seven sections - flowers (7 classes), floral arrangement (9 classes), pot plants (4 classes) 8 classes in the school children section, 14 classes in cooking, craft (4 classes) and finally the novice section of 4 classes, this for anyone who has not previously won at the Lilydale Spring Flower Show.
Being one of the secretaries at the time, I know there was a lot of work involved but the hall always looked beautiful, our classes were well supported. That year "Spin and Weave" in Launceston, West Tamar Crafts Association, Hobby tex and china paintings were the demonstrations.
State President, Mrs. Best of Deloraine opened the show. Plants from Allan's Nursery were on sale, as well as cooking and handcrafts by members.
State conference has been and gone - held in Launceston - in 2004 we will have only 3 areas state wide, topics such as doctor shortages and indemnity insurance/public liability insurance/cannabis used for medicinal purposes and on prescription only, were among some topics discussed.
Next meeting is 10.30 for 11 a.m, at Norma's, lunch to share, meeting to follow. Dorothy Story
Lilydale District Progress Association
This month sees us reconvening our AGM in the hope of encouraging some new members to take on Committee roles in the Association. A flyer outlining some of the roles the Progress Association undertakes in the District was delivered to all local residents this month.
Like most of the small groups in our village finding new people willing to take on this work is sometimes difficult. But with the number of people moving into the area in recent months we hope that a renewed enthusiasm for the district will encourage both long time and new residents to take an interest.
Our AGM will be held in the Old Courthouse, Main Rd Lilydale on Tuesday 7th October at 7.30pm. We all look forward to seeing some new faces. If you'd like to help out come along to the meeting and introduce yourself.
On another note the Progressive Newsletter which we have produced for over 24 years is in desperate need of some new advertisers. If you'd like to promote your business please contact our Editor Jayne Saddington to discuss your needs. At $20 per month it's a very cheap form of advertising that covers the whole district.
