Football Club News:
The Club's financial year ended on the 30th September and while it may look on the books that the Club
finished the year about even, looks can be deceiving.  The 2003 Annual Dinner and Trophy Night being held in the next financial year, for example, money collected for trophies was not spent until October means that the true figure for the year is a loss of about $1,000.

This is a disappointing result after a promising start, and that may have been the problem, money came in easily during the early months and it is easy to become complacent.  It needed some money raising ideas at the end of the year to keep the money coming in because once the early trend stopped the Club was living on its profits from previous years.  Also a winning team may attract more local supporters, but can also be counter productive because supporters of the visiting clubs do not come to see their teams being beaten.  The results for the year were that gate takings were only up by $272.  The wettest winter for a few years was also not helpful.

It was hoped to be able to put a roof over the area in front of the Club Rooms next year and make the Club Rooms a smoke free area, this may not now be
affordable which means that if the State Government says that smokers have to go outside they could be left without any cover.

The one thing that has become evident in the last few years is that by itself the Club is not a viable
proposition. It is the Sponsorship that we have been able to get, that has been keeping the Club going.  In 2003 that Sponsorship has been worth $5,660 with
extra money coming from Launceston Mitsubishi for Spotters Fees.  There would appear to be a general apathy in the Community how Clubs function which is becoming a bit of a worry, because we are seeing a
decline in local organisations and no one seems to be caring very much about it.  It is the younger people who have the most to gain who seem to be the least interested.

We will keep our fingers crossed that there is a change on the way and a lot of new faces at the Club's AGM and Elections.
