Lilydale Landcare Report
Our Merthyr Park project is progressing well with lots of action.
The nuisance flora eradication programme took a giant leap forward after Andrew Greeney's men, Phil and Nick, completed four days work.
We are delighted with the extension of the walking track organised by Chris Moore from Launceston Parks and Recreation Department. Chris arranged for supervisor Paul Stevenson to work with a Conservation Volunteer team to prepare the new track. Landcare volunteers enjoyed working with these overseas and local volunteers. A celebration B.B.Q. is planned for the final working bee on Sunday March 2.
On Saturday April 5 Sara Lloyd will lead us on another delightful bird identification session at Merthyr Park between 4.0 p.m. - 6.0 p.m. Sara is particularly interested in studying Tasmanian bush birds. She leads walks, writes articles and participated in the Birds on Farms project. She is now involved with Fungimap. Don't miss this special EVENSONG treat with Sara Lloyd. Why not stay for the B.B.Q. to conclude the happy event?
Then it will be back to work on Saturday April 12 with an important autumn planting and mulching working bee 10.0 a.m. -12 noon. We need your help please!
It is really important that membership fees are paid so that all volunteers are covered by our insurance. Please remember to pay the $5 membership and make our treasurer very happy!
Village Green Report
Efforts are now mainly being concentrated on the shelter, which ideally, needs to be completed before the end of April.
The next stage involves the construction and fitting of the steel roofing braces. When these are completed, the roof can be installed. In the meantime, we will be developing the internal structures and fittings as well making provision for water and power.
The central area will shortly be sown with lawn seed and allowed to develop throughout autumn and winter. During the winter months, when they are more economical to buy, a number of trees will be planted to form a type of amphitheatre.
Working bees will continue to be held, as there are still several small tasks to be carried out, before the project is complete - keep an eye on the notice board & we hope that we can look forward to your help.
