Lilydale Football Club
A month to go and fortunately things are gradually falling into place. We believe that a roster has been finalised, we have had to wait until the NTFL and NTFA sorted a few things out because their decisions affected when the Scottsdale Ground is available. As it stands at the moment, Lilydale's first game is at Winnaleah on the 5th April.
The Club is still looking for an Under 13's Coach, most of the coaching positions have been filled from within the Club with last years coaches moving up a step as follows: Seniors - Steve Buchanan up from Assistant Coach Reserves - Tom Whiting up from Under 16's Under 16's - Les Arnold up from Under 13's.
With so many of the Club's Players having moved up through the junior ranks, both Tom and Les have already coached a number of their players at some stage in the last 2 - 3 years.
The Seniors and Reserves have a practice match against Evandale on the 15th March at Lilydale.
The Under 13's and Under 10's. All players must be registered and insured under the Auskick scheme. The normal age for Auskick is from 5 to 12 years but in the the North East this has been extended by a year to line up with the NEFU age groupings.
Auskick pack are available from the Club again, at cost, $26.00 and may be purchased now, but there will be no sales without a completed Registration Form, having to chase registrations can be a bit of a pain in the neck.
Auskick theme -"Fun and safe for Kids and Parents" One of the footy jokes is: "The under 12's coach (NEFU under 13's) is the slowest runner" A public meeting is called and when the word goes out for volunteers for the Under 13's coaching position, everyone takes off leaving the slowest runner stranded. He will then have this silly kid hanging on to his leg saying "you can do it Dad, you can do it!"
The Club pays for Coach's to attend a training course which can be fun having so many like minded people together. One of the problems with coaching is that when they take on the job they are expected to do everything, this is not only unfair it is often not practical, a brilliant coach may be a poor record keeper. Good back up support is now essential at all levels because we live in a world driven by 'paper work' and sport is no longer an exception.
It is good to see other Organisations using the Recreation Ground, there are people who have put a lot of time and effort to improve this facility and the best way to recognise their work is to see it being used
