Lilydale CWA Notes
Welcome to 2003 from Lilydale Country Womens Association, may it be a happy, healthy and productive year for everyone.
Our first meeting for the year is on February 5th, just where, well, I really don't know. Yes, I am the secretary and should know, but my excuse is we were having such a jolly time at our last gathering - December, and our Christmas outing, we forgot to make arrangements! But meet on February 5th, we surely will, at a T.B.A. venue, in the morning and a chance to catch up on holiday events. Lunch to share, and meeting will follow.
What was our enjoyable Christmas outing? Eight of our nine members, along with four husbands, a day with a difference. Five members and two husbands travelled to George Town where we boarded the "Shuttlefish" ferry (used in Sydney for transport during the Olympic Games) and taken across the Tamar River to Beauty Point, receiving a commentary on the way, where we had a short stop (time to go to the hotel for a coffee). Back on board the Shuttlefish, a trip around West Arm before being left at the Clarence Point pontoon, to be met by car and taken to the Holiday Lodge. There we found three more members and two husbands waiting. The meal provided was excellent. It also began raining but we were cosy indoors, we needed the rain. Afterwards those travelling by car departed, the ferry commuters were taken to the pontoon - met by a smiling Susie resplendent in waterproofs and umbrella ready to escort us aboard. In a few minutes, Rowlie had us back at George Town. Then home - a pleasant end to a busy year.
Sweets were provided for children attending the Christmas gathering on the Village Green and so far in 2003 we've been represented at the Village Green committee meeting.
It Can be Done The ones who miss all the fun Are those who say, "It can't be done". In solemn pride they stand aloof And greet each venture with reproof. Had they the power they'd efface The history of the human race. We'd have no radio or motor cars, No street lit by electric stars; No telegraph nor telephone, We'd linger in the age of stone. The world would sleep if things were run By those who say, "it can't be done".
