Lilydale Landcare
On Saturday 19th July we gathered at Merthyr Park for a great working bee. Young and not so young, mums, dads and children, all pulling together to complete mulching around the plants previously established to give them a great head start. Thank you to all the volunteers who attended! Thank you also to the Conservation Volunteers Australia crew who joined us on the day for a great effort. The day's work was finished off with a wonderful sausage sizzle to replenish everyone's energy.
We were very pleased to hear of a very successful visit to Merthyr Park by the classes Prep Huett and 3/4 Elphinstone of Lilydale District School as part of a local excursion. It gives us great pleasure to know that the Park is being used in this way, as it is such a great asset for our community and we should all be very proud of it.
Our Annual General Meeting will be held on Saturday 23rd August from 3 to 6pm at the Mt Arthur Centre. Everyone is invited. Join us to celebrate a year of achievements, of hard work and fun times. The business part of the meeting will be short. There will be an informative and interesting speaker, and afternoon tea will be just delicious. Make a date of it. We hope to see you there.
Dog Attacks At Lalla
Within the last four weeks there have been several dog attacks killing sheep in the Lalla area. The established amount of sheep is 34 with the last 4 being killed on Sunday 13 July 2003.
Unfortunately, neither Council nor the owner of the sheep have been able to locate these dogs and Council believe the attacks are happening in the early hours of the morning.
In the last 4 weeks Council has impounded 3 dogs roaming in the Lalla area.
If you have a dog I suggest that it is tied up or inside of a night time.
Any dog seen roaming on someone else property can be shot or collected by the Council. If impounded by the Council an impounding fee and an Infringement notice of $100 minimum will have to be paid.
If you have any information on the attacks or would like to discuss this matter please contact Customer Service Centre on 6323 3000. Janie Dickenson Mayor
