Mary Walsh Centre
The month of March came with a taste of cooler weather, including several frosts; but summer temperatures have returned on many days. These temperatures with the addition of dry winds have added to the anguish of farmers and gardeners who have watched the skies and earnestly prayed for rain.Food for stock and water supplies are low. Cracks are appearing in the ground as does happen in very dry seasons.
We at the Day Care, though down in numbers due to sickness, are still doing a little craftwork.
On Thursday 13th, we from the centre, those from the units and other community members went to Bridport for the day and dined at the hotel there. It was a lovely day weatherwise and was enjoyed by all. It was our great pleasure to have our fiend, Enid Rainbow, with us once again. Enid hopes to join us on our next trip which will be to Georgetown.
The hot, dry weather has affected our flower gardens this year, with less flowers or blooms, in spite of hand-watering.
The hand of God is everywhere The joy that comes from a kindly word... The autumn haze, the breath of spring, The chirping song the crickets sing. A rosebud in a slender vase, A smile upon a friendly face.... In everything both great and small We see the hand of God in all.
CWA Notes
Funny how the very first day of autumn was cold and so windy, as if the weather knew the actual dates! But now back to summer heat. Oh for a really good soaking rain, no a drenching rain--with good follow-ups! Sounds quite magical just now.
On 23rd March a Dedication Service was held at the Uniting Church, during which two of our former members, Sylv Griffin and Gwen Arnold were remembered, both ladies were Members of Honour of our branch for many years, a recognition not lightly given. Two roses with accompanying plaques have been planted there. CWA Sunday is 4th May, a group service for the two Northern Groups will be held at Newnham Uniting Church 9.15 am. All Welcome.
The two Lilydale members who attended the St Patrick's Day luncheon at Ravenswood thoroughly enjoyed themselves. Good fellowship, nice meal, and terrific entertainment, all with an Irish flavour - choral numbers, poetry, bellringing - and most there dressed in green.
Don't forget our 'In Praise of Mothers (day)' function - set for May 8th, 11 am, Uniting Church Hall. A good
