Why?- To improve scenic amenity

-control of traffic, road safety, improved parking, community convenience

-include tourist facilities

- a bypass, at least of heavy vehicles?

What would you like to see in 10 years' time?

-rationalisation of approach roads to village eg. wider, pathway/walking tracks and tree planting for traffic calming, scenic improvements generally

-village streetscape enhancement eg trees, shrubs, floral displays, rationalisation of signage and colours eg of rubbish bins, street lighting

-village parking (big safety issue)- provision of offstreet parking, rationalisation of traffic islands( as trucks sometimes need to drive on the wrong side of the road to get around them) and kerbside parking with disabled access

-tourist information and facilities improvements on information at the village green and appropriate physical access, street seating under the trees

- general pedestrian safety issues

- community remembrance- enhancement of the cenotaph area

What would you like to see in 5 years' time?

-village approaches- walking/ cycling/bridle tracks eg using the old railway line, paths, some scenic amenity improvements

-village streetscape enhancement- all as above

-village parking - all as above

-tourist information facilities - all as above

-community remembrance enhancements

What would you like to see by X-mas?

-planning for village streetscape consultation and finalisation with council

-review of tourist facilities/ signage

-identification of pedestrian safety issues

Who do we need to engage?

The council. There has already been some discussion with LCC Landscape Architect. Road Safety dedicated person in council - Richard Jamieson?

Tas Rail - about the old railway line

RE - LILYDALE STREET-SCAPE
I have spoken to Chris Moore in the Parks and Gardens Section of LCC, who has confirmed that work is proceeding on a draft plan for upgrading of the Lilydale street-scape. Apparently, he and the LCC landscape planner have been out to have a look at to see what improvements can be made to the village centre. Their recommendations will be included in a draft proposal that will be circulated to the Lilydale community for comment. He said that the report's availability will be advertised in the Examiner and included in the Progressive. It will also be posted on the notice board at the supermarket. This should occur within the next 4 to 5 weeks.
Chris went on to mentioned that whatever was decided, his area was constrained in what it could do due to lack of funds. At most, he can only afford to fund the planting of 5 trees. These would have to be purchase from the LCC's own nursery, which operates on a full cost recovery basis!!! Is this a case of the tail wagging the dog? If need be, I'd be happy to donate 2 trees. I'm thinking species Uriensis (Manchurian Pear) - deciduous, delicate fragrant flowers in Spring, attractive dark green foliage late-Spring through Summer, great shade tree with compact habit, spectacular colours in Autumn. All in all, a fabulous street tree.
Let's wait and see what the Council comes up with. In the meantime, any comments welcomed.
