PRESERVATION OF NATIVE BUSHLAND

Postby Admin on Fri Aug 22, 2008 11:27 pm

Protection of remnant native bushland areas, control of land clearance on private land, limiting of new plantations

Why?

- For scenic amenity

- for global warming reasons

- provision and protection of native habitats for wildlife

- protection of soil fertility for future generations

- health issues such as water and air quality

What would you like to see in 10 years' time?
- no new plantations within a set area around Lilydale centre ( involve State and Federal Gov't)
- all remaining bushland left intact, protected, enhanced and expanded

- explore development of Mt Arthur as a NP or bushland Reserve

- local Information Centre

What is achievable in 3 years?

- from council, planning controls in place to preserve/ enhance/ expand native bush

- wildlife/bushland reserve established in the Mt Arthur area

- changed zoning in Lilydale plans which restrict plantations

- Encouragement of protection of remaining bushland by; fencing off bush and rivers from stock( not native animals) , further planting of local provenance natives, covenants on land.

- Identification and hence protection of eagle nests in the area

- Construction of a list of local provenance plant species so that people know what they should be planting and made available as a poster? In Progressive? Leaflet? Highlight edible/useable species

What do we want done by X-mas?

- need to communicate loudly to council our ideals and ideas to incorporate them into the Lilydale plan

- Formalise a /the grouping the community that is to liase with council re protection of the bushland

- Contact all landowners on Mt Arthur ( survey?) to find out how they feel about a reserve on the mountain

- Encourage landowners to covenant

- Get ball rolling on Mt. Arthur state reserve

Who do we need to engage?

-LPG, LPA, Landcare, MAEMG,CVA (Conservation Volunteers Australia) Mt.Arthur landowners. Need to identify contacts and communicate with them in council, and State/Fed parliament. Maria Chledowska in LCC
