The Lilydale Painted Poles are unique in Tasmania. Fifteen Hydro poles in the village centre were painted by professional and community artists. The images depict history, sporting and community life. Designs for the images were proposed by the community and incorporated into the 'Identity Distinct' project, involving the Lilydale Community, Aurora Energy, Launceston City Council and the Tasmanian Arts Council through the Community Cultural Development Board of the Australia Council for the Arts. As
a result of this project Lilydale is now known as
